Max My Web didn’t start with a business plan.
It started with golf.
When I was around 18 or 19, my late grandad got me into the game. I’ve loved it ever since. At the time, I was working in IT for one of the UK’s largest claims management companies. I spent 13 years there, working my way up through the IT department and learning how large-scale systems really operate.
The municipal golf course was five minutes from the office. I was a member at local clubs and used most lunch breaks to practice and try to lower my handicap. At one point, I got down to 5 when I was playing regularly.
That’s where everything changed.

The First Website
My golf coach wanted help building an online presence. I didn’t call myself a web developer back then — I just understood IT, systems and how things connected together.
So I taught myself how to build and design websites properly.
We made a simple deal, I’d build his website and support his IT. He’d coach me in golf.
That was my first client.
Soon after, I built a website for the local driving range. Word spread. More small businesses needed help getting online properly.
What started as curiosity quickly became something more serious.
From Enterprise IT to Digital Platforms
While building websites in my spare time, my full-time career continued to evolve.
After leaving one of the UK’s largest claims management firms, I moved into a role with a global technology company. I now manage an IT Service Desk and act as a Jira Administrator, working within structured enterprise systems every day.
That background shapes how I approach web development.
I don’t just build websites.
I build digital platforms that are:
-
Built with clean, manageable structure
-
Optimised for search visibility from day one
-
Integrated seamlessly with payments, bookings or CRM systems
-
Designed to scale without constant rebuilds
Whether it’s a WordPress business website in North Wales or a Shopify ecommerce store serving customers across the UK, the thinking is the same.
Build it properly. Then grow it.

Why I Still Run Max My Web
Max My Web runs early mornings, late nights and weekends.
It’s a side business — but it’s not treated like a hobby.
It allows me to apply 15+ years of IT systems experience to startups and SMEs who need guidance. Many business owners don’t need an agency.
They need someone who understands:
-
Web design and development
-
Ecommerce platforms like Shopify
-
WordPress business websites
-
SEO foundations
-
Workflow systems
-
Automation
-
Jira and structured project management
I enjoy helping businesses in North Wales, Manchester and the North West build digital foundations that actually support growth.
From Golf Range to Digital Growth
Looking back, it’s strange to think that a conversation on a driving range led to building ecommerce platforms, booking systems and scalable business websites.
But that’s how Max My Web started.
Not with funding.
Not with investors.
Not with a marketing strategy.
Just curiosity, a willingness to learn properly, and a passion for systems.
And I still enjoy it.
If you’re launching a business website, building an ecommerce store or looking to scale your digital systems — I’d rather build it once, and build it right.
And it all started because I wanted to lower my handicap.
